Alternative Waste Solutions

Upcycling provides an alternative, steadfast solution to recycling.

The business of Upcycle is to ensure excess product that is identified as waste, is reinvented into product through projects or initiatives that have great value and become part of the green economy both socially & environmentally.

Waste solutions differ from small scale projects to larger scale projects and initiatives.

Upcycle’s optimisation of waste principal is based on the sustainable contribution of your company’s investment into actions that offset your environmental footprint and sustainable management of projects that have been developed in communities as a response to waste reinvention. (see Upcycle training)

Our waste stream response analysis includes research and development, training on specific processes for product output, and focused integration of your CSI or SED sustainability for a true reflection of social impact to the accredited beneficiaries.

How Upcycle innovates solutions to your waste –

We encourage companies to consider investment with different scaling opportunities.

Ideally, we encourage an investment toward socio-economic development (SED) as this ensures the sustainability of community projects and initiatives that have already been set up because of a response to waste solutions put in action.

Corporate social investment (CSI) taps into the Upcycle product support (see Upcycle products) as when investing in products that have been through the Upcycle process of waste reinvention, you have in fact invested into the full circle of the circular green economy as it is these products that were made by initiatives and projects set up in communities.

Socio-economic development / SED directly improves the quality of life of people involved in community initiatives or projects that have been set up in response as solutions to waste reinvention.

A SED investment initiative not only shows you a return of investment but the ‘burden of proof’ element that is necessary for this return is ensured because the communities have already been set up and the training of the people has already been done.

The scaling opportunities enable collaborative CSI and SED investment from different businesses working together by tapping into projects running at different stages or levels of what makes sense to the individual business unit and which in turn ensures the sustainability of training and development already put in place.

The requirement for achieving the full 5 points for socio-economic development is for measured entities to spend 1% of net profit after tax on qualifying socio-economic development (SED) beneficiaries.  As per the B-BBEE codes of good practice, SED contributions must lead to income-generating opportunities for the beneficiaries.

Approximately R8 billion is contributed to SED projects on an annual basis. As an organisation we are aware that, very often, these contributions do not lead to sustainable solutions for beneficiaries.

This is where Upcycle can offer a completely unique SED solution which not only empowers beneficiaries but offers a unique value-proposition to companies as well.

Upcycle also manages solutions to waste management by developing specific solutions for your waste stream through training manuals, courses, workshops, and team building.
