Waste Initiatives

Upcycle’s business model is structured to fully embrace the circular green economy as an innovative response to economic disruption and escalating poverty.

What this means in reality is that the core foundation of Upcycle’s vision, that all waste has value, has been put into practise by implementation of a variety of projects in different communities.

Upcycle creates solutions in responding to solving the waste crisis around us by innovating how waste can be reinvented into new valuable products that are trained on and developed in communities.

The circular green economy in action by the Upcycle business model has diverted tons of waste from landfill and instilled skill development for individuals who have access to this training through community-based projects.

The projects are either funded by corporate social investment, socio-economic development programmes or by the money made by the Upcycle landfill avoidance shop. The Upcycle landfill avoidance shop has closed the loophole to the lack of funding that comes through by continuous CSI or SED funding.

This closed loophole has enabled Upcycle to continue training and development of people on specific product development from waste material where corporate funding has been sporadic. This insures sustainability of people and products.

Projects set up in communities have varied on making products from different waste material as they each have a fundamental specific process that has been prototyped through the Upcycle Creative R&D lab and then rolled out into the training of people on the specific products.

New valuable products that are made are either products commissioned for corporate gifts or products that are directly available in the Upcycle landfill avoidance shop.

Very simply put, there is enough continuous available waste to upcycle into new valuable products. This allows for sustainability of projects active in communities by:

-Funds from debranded excess products that are sold

-CSI and SED funding of projects that pay for training and development

-Over time our designers and projects have created high end user products that are in demand

We invite you to take a look at the upcycled products and the community training and development that fulfil the business model of Upcycle.
