The Great Exchange Between NGOs

Through Ellenor’s initial contact, we began working with the residents at REEA on several debranding projects. Astrid delivered a carload of branded bags, zippers, cords, and other accessories to REEA Foundation, where the residents enthusiastically took on the task of unpicking and sorting these items. This work is not only essential for Upcycle but also provides the residents with a new sense of purpose. Each week, they eagerly anticipate our arrival with new materials to debrand.

In addition to unpicking and sorting items, the residents at REEA have taken on other tasks, such as un-picking branded products . This may seem like a small job, but it’s incredibly time-consuming, and the residents’ efforts save us countless hours. Another resident has found his niche in debranding pens, meticulously removing logos using steel wool and toothpaste. His attention to detail ensures that these pens can be repurposed and sold, with the proceeds going toward Upcycle’s training programs for communities in need.

This partnership is a beautiful example of mutual benefit. While REEA’s residents gain valuable occupational therapy and a renewed sense of purpose, Upcycle benefits from their careful work, which allows us to repurpose materials that might otherwise go to waste. In return, we’ve been able to provide REEA with much-needed resources, such as files and other supplies.

At Upcycle, we are thrilled to be working with organizations like the REEA Foundation. This partnership not only supports our goal of keeping waste out of landfills but also contributes to the well-being of those involved. Together, we are proving that sustainability is not just about the environment—it’s about people, purpose, and creating a better world for everyone.
