Using the same fusion technique, we layered, bonded, and sewed discarded plastic bags to create a strong, flexible, and leather-like material.

From Waste to Wearable Art: Our Designer Vampire Coat for the Nedbank Trashion Show

What if plastic waste could be more than just trash? What if it could be transformed into high-fashion? That’s exactly what we achieved by taking fused plastic to the next level—creating a stunning designer vampire coat for the Nedbank Trashion Show!

The Evolution of Fused Plastic

After successfully crafting a patchwork plastic bag blanket for the Waste Expo, we wanted to push the boundaries of upcycled fashion. Using the same fusion technique, we layered, bonded, and sewed discarded plastic bags to create a strong, flexible, and leather-like material. This gave us the perfect base for a bold and dramatic garment fit for the runway.

The Design: A Vampire-Inspired Masterpiece

Drawing inspiration from gothic aesthetics, our designer coat featured:

  • A dramatic silhouette – A long, flowing cape-like structure for maximum effect.
  • Textured detailing – The unique fusion process created an organic, almost reptilian texture that added depth and intrigue.
  • Sustainability with style – Every panel was crafted from reclaimed plastic, proving that waste materials can be both functional and fashionable.

Fashion with a Purpose

The Nedbank Trashion Show is all about innovation, sustainability, and pushing the limits of eco-conscious fashion. Our vampire coat made a bold statement—not just on the runway but in the conversation around waste reduction and creative reuse.

By turning plastic waste into high-fashion, we hope to inspire designers, creators, and environmental advocates to rethink materials and embrace sustainability in style. Waste is only waste if we let it be—otherwise, it’s a resource waiting for transformation!
