Sally’s Workshop
Naomi invited Upcycle to Sally’s Workshop with the hope of introducing skills that could empower individuals to create products that are not just functional but marketable. Instead of relying on charity, Naomi strongly believes in a model where individuals with disabilities can earn a sustainable income. Upcycle’s expertise in transforming waste into valuable products aligned perfectly with this vision.
Under Winnie’s guidance, Upcycle designed training sessions that accommodated the 15 participants and their different abilities. The training was not only engaging but also meaningful, what we found was nothing short of inspiring. The disabled participants at Sally’s Workshop were eager, capable, and incredibly meticulous in their work, learning skills that could lead to financial independence.
The training included:
- Upcycled Picture Frames: Using old CD covers and buttons, participants crafted beautiful picture frames, learning how to glue, arrange, and personalize their creations. The joy on their faces when they realized they could make something beautiful with their own hands was priceless. Many eagerly took their frames home to display their cherished photos.

- Bottle Top Memory Game – A fun yet functional product, this game was crafted using bottle tops, stencils, and colorful paints. Though cutting circles with scissors proved challenging for some, the teamwork and perseverance displayed were incredible. The result? A unique game that not only helps children develop memory skills but also reduces waste.

- Finger Knitting with Upcycled T-shirt Yarn: This activity introduced them to a simple weaving technique, allowing them to create unique textile pieces. This activity proved to be a favorite. Some participants worked faster than others, but everyone grasped the technique. It was more than just knitting—it was a lesson in patience, confidence, and the beauty of handmade work.
